What is hypertension?
Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a condition that affects billions of people across the world.
High blood pressure, or hypertension, occurs if the blood pressure rises above 140/90. This is considered severe if the pressure is above 180/120. In most cases, a person will not even know that he or she has high blood pressure until an annual screening will reveal an underlying issue.
What symptoms are connected to hypertension?
- An enlarged heart
- A weakened heart
- Blood vessel narrowing
- Blood vessels in the eyes may bleed or rupture
- Aneurysms, or atypical bulges in the wall of the artery
How is it treated?
We encourage lifestyle changes and prescribe high blood pressure medications such as beta-blockers, vasodilators, or even inhibitors. This in combination with lifestyle and behavioral changes and constant monitoring can reduce blood pressure over time.
